We are witnessing an era in which research in infectious diseases and immunology is advancing at an unprecedented pace and scale. The extraordinary public health crisis over the past few years has posed significant challenges to the scientific community while simultaneously providing a catalyst for groundbreaking discoveries. We have seen remarkable progress in areas such as the rapid development of vaccines, the creation of novel tools for tracking disease spread, and the formulation of strategies to cope with viral mutations. In the post-pandemic world, it has become even more important to face new challenges and to share the knowledge and experience we have accumulated.

The Awaji International Forum on Infection and Immunity began in 2001 and marks its 23rd edition this year. Over the years, it has brought together researchers in virology, bacteriology, parasitology, and immunology, fostering interdisciplinary networks that transcend the boundaries of academic societies and promoting collaborative research and joint development projects. By inviting leading researchers from abroad, the forum has also become a platform for international exchange, drawing participants from diverse research institutions, including neighboring countries.

In 2025, the forum will be hosted by the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki University. The theme of this year’s meeting is "Multidisciplinary Approaches to Understand and Control Infectious Diseases". In addition to symposia led by leading researchers in infectious diseases and immunology, we are organizing review talks that will explore cutting-edge discoveries, novel methodologies, and future research directions. Through lively discussions among participants with diverse expertise, we hope to encourage the convergence of multiple perspectives and foster the development of innovative ideas.

This forum also places great emphasis on fostering opportunities for mutual learning between early-career researchers and experienced experts. We plan to invite a wide range of researchers from academia, industry, and government sectors across Japan and around the world, focusing on expanding presentation opportunities and networking platforms for young researchers.

Through these efforts, we hope to inspire the next generation of scientists in the fields of infectious diseases and immunity, and to open new horizons in research.
We sincerely look forward to your active participation.
